Ever since Marco Polo brought the riches of the East back to Europe, importing has offered a window into the world of business for intrepid entrepreneurs and their customers. Times have changed since then - you no longer need to transport goods on horseback for starters - but the reasons for importing are similar.

Imports are a great way to grow your business, by giving customers access to overseas goods. While there are times when Australian made and grown is in demand, there are exceptions. Some things are not produced in Australia, like mobile phones or Thai fish sauce. Some products have special status, like French champagne or Persian rugs. Others are simply cheaper to produce elsewhere.
